Congress Beyond Trust?

The talk of "nationalization" continues in spite of several attempts to spike the use of that word.  Banks continue to be the most often mentioned targets of nationalization although insurance companies could also become popular targets.

There is a very real problem with nationalization.  It won't just be a "temporary nationalization".  It will be a permanent nationalization given our current Congress.

Can we trust our Congress to do what they say they'll do?  The answer is, unfortunately, an emphatic NO.  The Congress has said one thing and done yet another too often for any of us to be so gullible as to trust it at its word.

We have a Congress populated with people such as Nancy Pelosi, and Barney Frank and Chris Dodd, and Charlie Rangel, and Arlen Specter, and Olympia Snow and Susan Collins, and Harry Reid.

Why would we even give a moment's thought to taking this group at its word?  This group, and the majority that serves with those I've named have proved over and over that they cannot be trusted.  They name bills with a seemingly acceptable title, and then we find that the bill did almost the exact opposite of what the name would've told us.  They vote on thousand-page documents without having any real idea of the content.

They pose as one thing and vote as another, and they rely on verbal obfuscation to make us think that nothing untoward has happened.

Whenever I am told I need not worry about something, I begin to become very, very troubled.  I have been told not to worry about the nationalization of banks.  I am frightened to death that tomorrow or the next day will bring news of nationalized banks.

Once our current Congress gains any foothold in the race to nationalize, we can rest assured that it will not stop with one or two such actions, and we can rest assured these will be temporary in name only.

Isn't it great that we think of people in Congress as being no better than "carny hucksters"?  As the old saw goes, this likely is being most unfair to carny hucksters.

Al - I think the thing that needs to happen is that we need term limits on Congress. The whole reason for these wasteful earmarks is to get these guys re-elected. 1 term in the senate and 2 in the house.
These would immediately eliminate the Barney Franks and Chuck Rangels of the world who are only there to line their own greedy pockets.
